Waitangi Golf Club, Bay of Islands, NZ - remodelling

 Waitangi green site

The historic Waitangi Golf Club, as the first major step in their renovation programme, has a new oceanside green: extending the famous par 4, hole 11 to a par 5. The new green nestles in rocks against the backdrop of the glistening Pacific Ocean and will be open for play late 2011.

In 1932 the Governor General of New Zealand, Lord Bledisloe, and his wife, purchased and donated this land on the Waitangi Peninsula to the inhabitants of NZ as a place of historic interestic and recreational enjoyment, for use in perpetuity.  The course is known for not only its excitement and challenge, but the panoramic ocean and island views.

Currently also 'growing in' are the new cliff edge hole 12  tees, perched high above the ocean, and creating a driveable par 4 if you dare.
