Golf Course and Practice Area Remodeling

An historic NZ Golf Course, Akarana has flourished on its rolling parkland site since the 1920s.

The green complex on Hole 1 was redesigned and constructed to USGA specifications to alleviate poor drainage and soil issues; it was elevated and enlarged with added undulations and gentle swales to redirect surface water from the surrounds. The design retained the classic layout of left and right bunkers guarding the green and amplified the support mounds for a more dramatic impact on both visuals and golfing play. They may entice the golfer to take a longer club though an overhit approach could land in the bunker at the rear or run off the back.

Receiving much praise from members and visitors, the green complex was constructed largely in-house and supervised by both Course Committee and Superintendent, the green was turfed and offers an immaculate putting surface.

Continuing construction in 2023, the upgraded Practice Area adjacent to the Clubhouse, car park and pro-shop for easy access boasts covered driving range with ball tracers to maximise use of the space, putting, chipping and bunkered greens and teeing areas.
